Short description:

  • DCFTA negotiations and new opportunities offered by the EU’s single market area to businesses on both banks; obstacles and challenges that need to be addressed; reforms that need to be implemented as part of trade liberalization process with the EU; sectoral meetings (agriculture, wine, food, textile industries etc.) on issues and opportunities as well as problems pertaining to access to EU markets;
  • EU product quality systems and their implementation in Moldova/Transnistrian region; product safety, systems, customs and legal regulations; the changes that will be required; opportunities for business development;
  • Access to micro-financing for SME businesses in Moldova as well as discussing opportunities for such access for businesses originating from TN region; financing opportunities for Transnistria’s businesses and banking issues; small business development and related areas;
  • Enhancing information/ awareness about existing opportunities within the ENP, educational and scientific programs, which can benefit the whole population of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region.

Beneficiaries: business communities on both sides, owners of existing SMEs and CEOs of large companies on both banks, economic policy makers from Moldova and Transnistria, economic and sectoral experts and researchers from both sides, members of the Confidence-Building Group for Economic Issues, residents on both sides of the river.

Results: 5 specialized sessions and thematic roundtables were organised in Odessa (2), Chisinau, Tiraspol and Merenesti village, Bender district. These events were attended by business people on both sides of the Nistru River, policy professionals, decision makers, experts in the relevant sectors (economic/banking/finance), researchers and analysts from these sectors, representatives of the confidence-building working groups, representatives of relevant EU institutions (DG Trade), trade associations, think tanks as well as other stakeholders.
